The Saudi Ministry of Foreign Affairs condemned on Tuesday the Israeli incursion into Syria, describing it as a blatant violation of Syrian sovereignty. The statement, posted on the ministry’s official account on the American platform X, expressed strong denunciation of the ongoing Israeli violations and interference in Syria’s internal affairs. It emphasized that such actions violate the sovereignty of the sisterly Syrian Arab Republic, international law, and the disengagement agreement signed between Syria and Israel in 1974, especially amid tensions in the Sweida province. Since July 19, Sweida has witnessed a ceasefire following a week of armed clashes between Druze groups and Bedouin tribes, resulting in hundreds of deaths. Israel justified its aggression by claiming to protect the Druze, which Damascus considered blatant interference, demanding Israel comply with the 1974 separation agreement.
In August, the Israeli army crossed into Quneitra province four times, the latest being early Tuesday, after which Damascus reported the death of a citizen due to Israeli shelling of a home. The Saudi Foreign Ministry affirmed its full support for the Syrian government’s measures to achieve security, stability, and maintain state sovereignty across Syria. It also firmly rejected any separatist calls to divide Syria, urging all Syrian people to prioritize reason, dialogue, and unity to complete building the new Syrian state. Saudi Arabia renewed its call for the international community to stand by Syria in achieving security, stability, and sovereignty, and to firmly confront ongoing Israeli violations. Since the overthrow of Bashar al-Assad’s regime on December 8, 2024, the new Syrian administration has intensified efforts to restore security. Despite not threatening Israel, Israel has launched airstrikes killing civilians and destroying military sites and equipment.
Israel has occupied most of the Syrian Golan Heights since 1967 and expanded its control amid the regime change, including the buffer zone.
