The General Directorate of Residency and Foreigners Affairs – Dubai, in collaboration with Dubai Airports, has launched the “Red Carpet” lane at Dubai International Airport, a world-first service that allows travelers to complete passport control procedures within seconds without the need to present any travel documents, with the capability to process up to ten passengers simultaneously through the smart lane.
The lane relies on artificial intelligence and biometric systems, where data is pre-processed to verify travelers’ identities, allowing passage without stopping or showing documents, while special cases are referred for manual review, maintaining the highest security standards.
Estimates indicate that the new lane completes the crossing process in between 6 to 14 seconds per passenger, with a capacity of up to ten people at once, compared to traditional methods that process one passenger at a time, reducing waiting times and enhancing the airport’s capacity.
The launch of the “Red Carpet” lane is part of Dubai’s efforts to strengthen its global leadership in smart travel and to cement Dubai International Airport’s position as the world’s busiest airport for international flights for the eleventh consecutive year, reflecting the emirate’s commitment to innovation and adopting the latest technologies to serve travelers.
