Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi affirmed Egypt’s aspiration to continue cooperation with the United States to implement the agreement based on President Trump’s plan, emphasizing Egypt’s commitment to work closely with the U.S. to complete their partnership in the Middle East peace process, which Egypt initiated and the U.S. has sponsored since the 1970s.
The Egyptian president also stressed the urgent need for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip.
This came during President El-Sisi’s reception of Steve Witkoff, the U.S. Special Envoy for the Middle East, and Jared Kushner, Senior Advisor to the U.S. President, who are envoys of U.S. President Donald Trump participating in ceasefire negotiations in Gaza.
The official spokesperson for the Egyptian presidency, Ambassador Mohamed El-Shenawy, stated that President El-Sisi welcomed the ceasefire agreement in Gaza and praised President Trump’s diligent efforts in this regard, expressing his anticipation to celebrate the signing of the agreement as soon as possible.
Similarly, the envoys thanked President El-Sisi and the concerned Egyptian authorities for the significant efforts made to reach the agreement. They highlighted the strength and strategic nature of the relations between Egypt and the United States, affirming that President Trump appreciates President El-Sisi’s role in resolving this crisis and in the region generally, as well as the friendship between the two leaders.
The spokesperson also noted that President El-Sisi praised the role played by the U.S., the Qatari mediator, and the Turkish side in supporting Egypt’s mediation efforts in the Sharm El-Sheikh negotiations. He confirmed that ending the war and achieving peace in Gaza and the region is a shared goal of all countries and peoples in the region and the world. Egypt will continue to work with the U.S., mediators, and concerned parties to faithfully and responsibly implement the agreed-upon measures, including the ceasefire, the delivery of sufficient humanitarian aid, and the release of hostages and prisoners.
