President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi received a phone call today from Nikos Christodoulides, President of the Republic of Cyprus, during which they discussed recent developments in the Middle East, primarily the ceasefire agreement reached in Sharm El-Sheikh regarding the Gaza Strip.

The Cypriot president expressed his country’s full welcome of the agreement, affirming Cyprus’s support for its implementation and praising Egypt’s vital role and President Sisi’s personal efforts in facilitating the agreement.

President Sisi reviewed with his Cypriot counterpart the key aspects and details of the agreement, stressing its importance in ending the war, releasing hostages, securing humanitarian aid access, and initiating the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip. He also emphasized the full implementation of the agreement’s provisions, noting Egypt’s continuous efforts over the past two years in coordination with Qatar and the United States to end the war and alleviate the humanitarian suffering of the Palestinian people.

The president invited the Cypriot president to participate in the celebration to be held in Egypt marking the signing of the ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

President Sisi underscored the necessity of deploying international forces in Gaza and granting the agreement international legitimacy through the UN Security Council. He also pointed to Egypt’s intention to host an international conference for early recovery and reconstruction, which was welcomed by the Cypriot president.

The call also covered the distinguished bilateral relations between Egypt and Cyprus, with both presidents discussing ways to enhance cooperation in political, commercial, and investment fields. They agreed to build on the results of their January 2026 summit to expand cooperation in tourism, construction, agriculture, and other areas of mutual interest.

The Cypriot president confirmed his country’s continued support for Egypt’s positions within the European Union.
