President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi held a meeting attended by Prime Minister Dr. Mostafa Madbouly, Deputy Prime Minister for Industrial Development and Minister of Industry and Transport, General Kamel El-Wazir, and other senior military leaders to review updates on the establishment, modernization, operation, and management of ports across the country. The meeting covered plans for the Gerjoub Sea Port and its special economic zone, Abu Qir Sea Port, the liquid bulk storage and blending station at East Port Said, management and marketing of Galala Marina, and the infrastructure handover of Bernice Sea Port. The President stressed continuing the development of Egypt’s port network to integrate with the infrastructure completed in recent years and enhance the state’s capacity to maximize benefits.
The meeting also reviewed progress on transport projects, especially the railway system, including the East-West Nile Monorail and related passenger stations, ensuring integration with the East Cairo Monorail and shuttle buses, and road upgrades adjacent to the monorail route. The East Nile Monorail line is scheduled to open in November 2025.
Updates on the first line of the high-speed electric train (Sokhna – Alexandria – Alamein – Matrouh), planned for June 2026, and the high-speed train line connecting Madinet El-Salam, 10th of Ramadan City, and the New Administrative Capital, expected to finish by March 2026, were presented. President Sisi emphasized the importance of adhering to timelines due to these projects’ role in urban, industrial, and tourism development.
The meeting also discussed expanding industrial zones to support the national industry by establishing new factories that meet local market needs and promote industrial localization and local production supplies. Deputy Prime Minister Kamel El-Wazir highlighted the state’s focus on iron, steel, and cement industries, reviewing progress at Suez Steel and Arish Cement companies, and stressing the state’s keenness to attract investments and enter strategic partnerships to expand local manufacturing and joint manufacturing with friendly countries, reduce import bills, increase production for local consumption and export, and create more job opportunities.
The official spokesperson stated that President Sisi confirmed the necessity of adhering to project timelines, conducting comprehensive maintenance reviews of the road network and improving its efficiency, accelerating the implementation of integrated logistical developmental axes linking production areas with the newly established seaports, and directed efforts to attract major shipping lines and global operators to support the state’s industrial development and comprehensive economic growth goals.
