The case of the detention of Ahmed Abdelkader “Mido”, President of the Egyptian Youth Union Abroad, witnessed rapid developments after British authorities arrested him in London on the evening of August 25, while his deputy Ahmed Nasser was released after hours of investigation.

In an official step, the Egyptian Embassy in London appointed a lawyer to represent the union president and follow up on the case from all aspects, reflecting the state’s keenness to protect the interests of its citizens abroad and ensure the provision of necessary legal support.

Ahmed Nasser confirmed after his release that his condition is “completely stable,” noting that procedures are underway to release Abdelkader in the coming hours.

On the diplomatic front, the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Migration, and Egyptian Expatriates Affairs, Dr. Badr Abdel Aaty, held a phone call with British National Security Adviser Jonathan Powell, during which he stressed Egypt’s close monitoring of the case, demanding a swift clarification of the circumstances of the Egyptian citizen’s arrest and his prompt release.

The minister also tasked the Egyptian Embassy in London with direct communication with the relevant British authorities and providing all consular services to the union president.

The call also touched on the bilateral relations between Cairo and London, where both sides agreed to push towards elevating relations to the level of a strategic partnership, in addition to exchanging views on the serious developments in the Gaza Strip. Minister Abdel Aaty renewed Egypt’s condemnation of the ongoing Israeli violations and the obstruction of humanitarian aid entry, emphasizing the urgent need for international community action to stop the humanitarian disaster.

While the Egyptian community in Britain awaits the results of ongoing investigations, the official intervention and diplomatic efforts reflect a parallel move aimed at ensuring the rights of Egyptian citizens abroad and safeguarding their interests in facing any challenges.
