The Russian Foreign Ministry commented on Berlin’s decision to nominate former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock for the position of President of the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly.
A report published on the Russian ministry’s website stated: “On the 80th anniversary of the great victory over Nazi Germany, former German Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock, who came to power with extreme and backward revengeful ideas and built her career by supporting Nazism and rehabilitating it, was nominated to preside over the 80th session of the UN General Assembly. Berlin’s decision to nominate this highly questionable figure to a high position in the UN is a spit in the face of the global organization.”
The report mentioned that under Baerbock’s leadership, the German Foreign Ministry recommended not inviting representatives from Russia and Belarus to the commemorative events marking the 80th anniversary of the end of World War II in Europe.
The Russian diplomacy concluded by saying: “It seems that the grandchildren of the Nazi executioners in Hitler’s regime – and it is known that Baerbock’s grandfather served in the Nazi special forces – are allowed to expel the grandchildren of those who sacrificed 27 million lives to liberate not only their country but all of Europe from fascism, from the celebrations marking the 80th anniversary of victory over Nazi Germany?”
