Hamas leader Khalil al-Hayya said today, Thursday, in a televised speech that Hamas considers the Gaza war to be over, citing guarantees from mediators.

Al-Hayya pointed out that the Palestinian delegation received guarantees from mediators and the US administration that “the war is completely over.” Al-Hayya is the head of the Hamas negotiation delegation in the ceasefire talks.

He mentioned that Hamas “gave a response that serves the interests of the Palestinian people and spares bloodshed,” referring to the agreement based on the US peace plan.

He added: “We affirm that the sacrifices of our people will not be in vain and that we will keep our promise and not abandon the national rights of our people: to achieve freedom, independence, and self-determination.”

A spokesperson for the Israeli government earlier confirmed that an agreement on the main points to end the conflict in Gaza was signed this morning, paving the way for the first phase of the US proposal.

The Israeli spokesperson told reporters: “All parties signed the final draft of the first phase this morning in Egypt.”

Al-Hayya stated that Hamas will continue to work with national and Islamic factions to establish an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital.

US President Donald Trump said via the Truth Social platform: “We achieved a huge accomplishment last night in the Middle East, something people said would never happen. We ended the war in Gaza, and truly, on a much broader level, we normalized peace.”

UN Secretary-General António Guterres said via X platform: “We have all waited a very long time for this moment. Now we must make it make a real difference.”
