The Sixth Infantry Division of the Sudanese army stated in a press release today that it “managed to repel a violent attack launched by militias on the city of El Fasher at 4:00 AM” (02:00 GMT).

It explained that the Rapid Support Forces carried out the attack from two axes: the southern axis towards the medical weapon, and the northern axis towards the (Iqra) hospital, using infantry, combat vehicles, and two tanks under cover of heavy weapons shelling.

It continued: “Our forces bravely confronted them, inflicting heavy losses in lives and equipment, destroying an enemy tank with its crew and several combat vehicles, while more than one hundred militia members were killed and others injured.”

The intensity of military confrontations between the Sudanese army and the Rapid Support Forces is escalating in El Fasher, the capital of North Darfur state in western Sudan.

The Rapid Support Forces launched drone attacks on the Dar Al-Arqam shelter center, Omdurman Islamic University, and other areas within El Fasher neighborhoods, according to the El Fasher Resistance Committees Coordination.

The Sudanese government announced on Saturday the death of 57 civilians in the attack on the shelter center, while volunteers reported 60 deaths.

Meanwhile, the Rapid Support Forces denied today bombing the shelter center in El Fasher.

The spokesperson for the Rapid Support Forces, Al-Fateh Qureshi, said in a press release, “We categorically deny the false claims circulated about civilian casualties resulting from aerial or artillery shelling targeting a displaced persons’ shelter in El Fasher city.”

He added, “The accusations published are nothing but fabrications that bear no relation to reality.”

Since May 10, 2024, violent clashes have been ongoing in El Fasher between the Sudanese army and its allies and the Rapid Support Forces.
