Al Jazeera Net publishes a special report on Sudan’s economy nearly three years after the war between the Rapid Support Forces and the Sudanese army.

This report aims to explore the pains of Sudan’s economy, highlighting the main sectors severely damaged by the war that erupted on April 15, 2023, which completely halted their operations due to direct war actions and accompanying looting and theft.

Through a series of journalistic reports and articles, Al Jazeera Net seeks to understand the current state of Sudan’s economy, what has happened to it, and the extent of its recovery after the war ceased in more than 90% of the country.

The report covers several topics and titles including the following:

Gold: The Pillar of the Economy

The report discusses the locations and methods of gold production, export entities, revenue size, and the possibility of increasing extraction to contribute a larger share to the national budget, which the war has severely damaged.

It also investigates why Sudan is famous for having large gold reserves, through a scientific report titled “Sudan’s Gold: From Cosmic Origins to River and Desert Mines.”

Agriculture

The report also addresses the state of agriculture, a profession practiced by more than 60% of Sudanese in its various sectors (rainfed and irrigated), especially after the Rapid Support Forces looted production tools such as tractors and other agricultural machinery, particularly in major production areas like Gezira and Sennar states.

It also examines the resilience of this sector against the repercussions caused by the war.

Livestock Wealth

Sudan is among the leading countries in livestock export, a huge economic sector close to agriculture and practiced by many Sudanese. However, it suffered a major blow due to the war that affected production areas and disrupted export operations. The report covers the current status of this sector and its contribution to the state budget, especially after reports indicated that 4 million heads of livestock left the country amid the battles.

Government Industrial Sector

The report details the size, fields, current status, and budget contribution of the government industrial sector. It also highlights the extent of its recovery after the war and the path to revive this government sector from the ruins of war.

The report also discusses the following issues:
