The Ministry of Public Works and Housing announced the start of a maintenance and improvement project for the Desert Road, covering the section from Al-Humeima to Al-Qweira, with a total length of 25 kilometers for both directions (12.5 km each way).

The Minister of Public Works and Housing, Engineer Maher Abu Al-Samen, stated that the new project costs about 3 million Jordanian dinars and is expected to be completed within 180 days. He explained that it is a continuation of a series of maintenance projects implemented by the ministry on the Desert Road, which is a vital artery linking the capital Amman with all governorates to the port of Aqaba, serving economic sectors, primarily the commercial and tourism sectors.

Abu Al-Samen emphasized that the ministry prioritizes the maintenance of the Desert Road to ensure its durability and improve traffic safety. He noted that the work includes removing and milling the existing asphalt layer, laying a new asphalt mix, in addition to implementing furnishing and traffic safety works such as painting the roads in white and yellow and installing ground reflectors.
