Dr. Manal Awad, Minister of Local Development, confirmed that the implementation rate of the Ibrahim Street development project in the Korba area of Heliopolis district has reached about 75% as of the first week of October. She indicated that the project is part of the state’s comprehensive plan to enhance the urban and aesthetic scene of areas with distinctive character and to preserve the heritage appearance of Khedivial Cairo and its surrounding areas.
The minister added in a statement issued by the ministry that the ongoing development works include organizing the external extensions of commercial shops, unifying paint colors, facade heights, and air conditioning unit locations, achieving visual and civil coordination for the area and preserving its unique architectural character.
Awad explained that so far, the facades of 64 commercial shops have been developed and upgraded within the project scope, with all painting and finishing works for the facades expected to be completed 100% by the end of October.
She pointed out that the works are proceeding in parallel with the implementation of public utilities (electricity – telephones), and permits for sewage and natural gas works are being issued, in preparation for converting the entire street into a pedestrian-only path after the completion of utilities, with interlocking paving installation to begin in the first week of November.
The minister noted that this development aligns with the state’s direction to improve quality of life in vital areas with high traffic densities by converting selected streets into safe and pedestrian-friendly paths, helping to reduce traffic congestion and enhance urban environmental quality.
The Minister of Local Development concluded by emphasizing that the Ibrahim Street development represents a comprehensive model of cooperation between the Ministry of Local Development and the executive bodies in Cairo Governorate to restore the capital’s aesthetic face and revive the spirit of heritage Cairo in line with the state’s approach to developing city centers and historic neighborhoods.
