Tripoli, October 2, 2025 (WAL) – The European Union welcomed reports of the capital Tripoli being cleared of all forms of armament, describing this step as “important” on the path to consolidating stability, and appreciating the efforts of the parties involved in achieving it.

This was stated in a tweet by the European Ambassador to Libya, Nicola Orlando, following his meeting yesterday with the Social Council of Souq Al-Jumaa and the Four Neighborhoods, in addition to representatives of the Higher Council of Social Components in the capital, as part of supporting the political process and enhancing security in Tripoli.

Ambassador Orlando explained via a tweet on the “X” platform that the meeting reviewed the latest developments related to the political and security files, and discussed current challenges related to maintaining the capital’s stability.

Orlando stressed the importance of constructive participation from all Libyan parties, in coordination with the United Nations Support Mission in Libya, supporting the political roadmap led by the UN Secretary-General’s Special Adviser, Hanna Tetteh, towards achieving national unity and organizing elections.

In another context during the meeting, the European Ambassador discussed with attendees the issue of media misinformation related to migration, affirming the EU’s commitment to its shared goals with Libya, which include promoting the voluntary return of migrants to their countries of origin and improving the management and control of land borders.

The meeting concluded by emphasizing the importance of continuing such consultations with various components of Libyan society, considering them a fundamental pillar for achieving stability and sustainable development.
