EU Foreign Policy Coordinator, Kaya Kallas, stated that the EU civil mission monitoring a key border crossing between Gaza and Egypt will resume its work the day after tomorrow, Wednesday, following Hamas’s release of Israeli prisoners held for more than two years.

The EU Border Monitoring Mission at Rafah Crossing was established in 2005 to assist in monitoring the crossing located in southern Gaza.

However, after Hamas took control of the Gaza Strip in 2007, no EU personnel were present at the crossing for a long period due to the EU’s unwillingness to cooperate with Hamas.

The mission’s resumption was again halted earlier this year after a short period due to the collapse of an agreement between Hamas and Israel to end the war in Gaza.

Kallas announced the “relaunch of the border mission shortly after Hamas released the living Israeli prisoners as part of a US plan to end the war.”

She wrote on the platform “X”: “The release of the hostages represents a major diplomatic success and an important step towards peace. President Trump made this achievement possible.”
