Amman, September 29 (Petra) – The Director General of the Department of Statistics, Dr. Haider Freihat, and the World Bank Regional Director, Sandeep Mahajan, discussed today, Monday, prospects for joint cooperation in developing official statistics and enhancing the institutional capacities of the department.

Freihat affirmed the government’s commitment to developing the national statistical system in line with national priorities and international standards, reviewing key achievements including the approval of the new National Statistics Law, launching the National Statistics and Development Strategy, and facilitating access to key indicators via the department’s electronic portal and the interactive National Data Center.

He explained that the department plays a pivotal role in providing decision-makers with accurate data to support sustainable development plans, emphasizing the importance of enhancing transparency and data availability at both national and international levels, alongside continued cooperation with the World Bank in several fields.

Freihat confirmed the department’s readiness to conduct further studies in cooperation with the World Bank that would serve the national economy and Jordanian society.

For his part, Mahajan expressed appreciation for the department’s efforts in modernization, digital transformation, and utilizing administrative data, confirming the World Bank’s continued technical and logistical support for statistical development projects in Jordan, especially the project to establish the interactive National Data Center expected to launch in early 2026, future development of the center, and enhancing the department’s analytical capacities.

The meeting discussed two analytical studies: the reality of the labor market in Jordan, and the reality of gender from a statistical perspective, the importance of the extracted indicators, and their benefit in supporting future policies and plans.

The two sides agreed to enhance coordination in implementing current and future projects to update the statistical infrastructure and expand the use of data to support development policies.
