Majid Al-Ansari, spokesperson for the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs, said on Tuesday that mediators have handed Hamas delegates the proposal of US President Donald Trump to stop the war in Gaza.
He pointed out that Hamas has pledged to study the proposal, and it is still too early to talk about an official response from them.
He noted that an official meeting will be held on Tuesday between Qatari and Egyptian mediators, along with Turkish intelligence chief Ibrahim Kalin, and the Hamas delegation to discuss Trump’s plan.
The Qatari Foreign Ministry spokesperson said that Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad participated in a meeting on Monday with the Hamas delegation, while Turkey will participate in today’s meeting.
He emphasized that Doha’s goal is to end the war and starvation in Gaza, adding: “We appreciate the American commitment to this goal, and Qatar is committed to doing what it can to stop the war, support the people of Gaza, and rebuild in coordination with partners.”
He pointed out that the US president announced that the head of the Israeli occupation government, Benjamin Netanyahu, informed him of his acceptance of the plan, but stressed that Qatar will not comment on specific provisions of the plan.
He said the first step in any agreement is consensus among all parties and stressed that the Arab Peace Initiative remains on the table, and Qatar is consulting with the Hamas delegation regarding Trump’s plan.
He added that when moving to the implementation phase of the agreement, the composition of forces in the Gaza Strip will be considered as part of the security arrangements.
