United Nations Secretary-General António Guterres strongly condemned on Monday the Israeli strike on the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Younis, southern Gaza Strip, which resulted in the martyrdom of many civilians, including healthcare workers and journalists. Guterres, in a statement read by his spokesperson Stéphane Dujarric, highlighted the grave risks faced by medical teams and journalists while performing their vital work amid this brutal conflict. He emphasized the necessity to respect and protect civilians, including medical personnel and journalists, at all times and called for a “swift and impartial” investigation into these killings. Guterres reaffirmed the need to enable medical teams and journalists to carry out their essential duties without interference, intimidation, or harm, fully in accordance with international humanitarian law.
