In light of the peace proposal presented by US President Donald Trump to end the Gaza war between Israel and Hamas, the United Nations confirmed its support for these efforts.

A UN spokesperson told reporters in New York in response to a question about Trump’s plan: “We welcome all mediation efforts, and the UN is ready to provide support, including, as expected, humanitarian aid.”

The spokesperson added: “As you know, the UN has been following all various mediation efforts carried out by different mediators, whether we talk about this US-led effort or others led by Qatar and Egypt.”

Trump’s peace proposal, published by the White House on Monday shortly before the press conference between Trump and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, states that if both sides agree to this proposal, the war will end immediately.

French President Emmanuel Macron on Monday welcomed Trump’s commitment to ending the war in Gaza and releasing all prisoners.

Macron said in a statement on X: “I expect Israel to respond firmly on this basis. Hamas has no choice but to immediately release all prisoners and follow this plan.” He added, “These elements should allow for in-depth discussions with all concerned partners to build lasting peace in the region.”

Meanwhile, Tony Blair praised the US president’s plan to end the Gaza war, in which the former British Prime Minister is expected to play a key role, describing it as “bold and smart.” Blair said in a statement: “President Trump has presented a bold and smart plan that, if agreed upon, can end the war, bring immediate relief to Gaza, and offer a brighter and better future for its people, while ensuring Israel’s absolute and ongoing security and the release of all prisoners.”

The White House earlier on Monday published Trump’s plan to end fighting in Gaza. The US president announced at a press conference that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu had approved the plan, but it still requires Hamas’ approval.

The plan stipulates that the US president will chair a committee overseeing the transitional phase in Gaza without forcing any residents to leave the area.

The plan calls for an “immediate” end to the war ongoing since October 7, 2023, and a phased withdrawal of the Israeli army from Gaza. It also includes the release of all prisoners.

Trump will chair a “peace committee” that includes former British Prime Minister Tony Blair. Palestinian affairs will be managed by a “non-political technocratic” Palestinian committee excluding Hamas.

According to other provisions in the plan, the US will work with “Arab and international partners to form an international force to establish stability to be deployed immediately in Gaza.” This force will train and support “approved Palestinian police forces” in consultation with Jordan and Egypt.
