Dr. Khaled Abdel Halim, Governor of Qena, today approved the updated strategic plan for Qena City, in the presence of Major General Sami Allam, Secretary-General of the Governorate, Engineer Walid Abu Al-Abbas, Director of the General Administration for Urban Planning, and Engineer Radwa Abdel Rahman from the Urban Planning Department.

The Governor explained that the approval of the plan comes within the framework of the state’s and the General Authority for Urban Planning’s plan to update strategic plans for cities whose plans were prepared more than five years ago, in implementation of Building Law No. 119 of 2008 and its executive regulations, and in line with sustainable urban development goals.

Abdel Halim pointed out that the update aims to prepare Qena City to transform into a sustainable city with a distinguished strategic location, capable of accommodating population and economic growth, and distributing activities and services in a balanced manner between existing and future urban areas, contributing to creating new job opportunities, improving living standards, developing infrastructure, and providing educational, health, and recreational services, while preserving agricultural land and supporting sustainable development goals.

The Governor added that the update process came in response to the importance of Qena City and its pivotal role in urban development and future projects, noting that the new plan takes into account the study of the city’s wider scope and its connection to new urban extensions affiliated with the New Urban Communities Authority, such as New Qena City and West Qena City.

It is worth mentioning that the strategic plan for Qena City represents a long-term future vision that determines development priorities and implementation stages in line with national goals and sustainable development plans in the medium and long term.
