Iran expressed its rejection and protest against the United Nations’ action to reinstate the previously canceled resolutions opposing the Islamic Republic of Iran.

Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative to the UN, Amir Saeed Iravani, in a letter to UN Secretary-General António Guterres, according to the Iranian news agency IRNA, stated: “Tehran strongly opposes and protests this measure, describing the decision as ‘invalid’ because it lacks any legal basis.”

The Iranian diplomat accused the UN Secretariat of “practically siding” with the three European countries and the United States, in his view, noting that “this action constitutes a serious violation of the UN Charter and damages its credibility.”

This comes as the UN has reinstated an arms embargo and other sanctions on Iran over its nuclear program, following a European powers’ initiative that warned Tehran of a harsh response.

With the reimposition of UN sanctions, Iran will again be subject to an arms embargo, a ban on all uranium enrichment and reprocessing activities, and any activities related to ballistic missiles capable of carrying nuclear weapons.

Other reinstated sanctions include travel bans on dozens of Iranians, asset freezes on dozens of individuals and Iranian entities, and a ban on supplying any components or technology that could be used in Iran’s nuclear program.
