A specialized medical team at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, part of SEHA, one of the companies under Pure Health – the largest healthcare group in the Middle East, achieved a significant medical breakthrough by saving the life of an 11-year-old girl who suffered from a rare and serious infection in the bones of her skull and face that nearly threatened her life.
The medical team explained that the condition started as a mild sinus infection, which quickly progressed to acute inflammation in the frontal bones and swelling medically known as “Pott’s Puffy Tumor,” leading to the formation of an abscess inside the skull and severe complications that required urgent and highly specialized surgical intervention.
The girl was transferred to the ENT department at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, where she underwent a comprehensive medical evaluation that enabled an accurate and timely diagnosis of acute bacterial sinusitis with severe complications involving the skull bones and tissues surrounding the brain.
An integrated medical and surgical treatment plan was implemented, including endoscopic sinus cleaning, drainage of the abscess in the forehead and inside the skull, removal of infected tissues and bones, and reconstruction of the frontal bone using a titanium mesh specially designed to fit the girl’s condition.
Dr. Raymond Baazeg, consultant in nasal and sinus endoscopy at Sheikh Khalifa Medical City, confirmed that the case presented an exceptional medical challenge, as it combined advanced bacterial infection with complex structural damage to the skull bones, requiring highly precise surgical intervention and immediate coordination among various medical specialties.
He stated that the medical team managed the case with a carefully studied treatment plan relying on the integration of surgical expertise, advanced technologies, and precise assessment of complications, emphasizing that the goal was not only to eliminate the infection but also to restore the skull’s structure and vital functions and achieve full recovery for the patient.
He added that the surgical results were excellent both medically and cosmetically, with complete elimination of the inflammation and abscess and successful reconstruction of the affected bones.
