The UAE warning that the annexation step is a red line and threatens the Abraham Accords.

The channel, citing unnamed sources, reported that ‘the UAE warning that the annexation step is a red line and threatens the Abraham Accords prompted Netanyahu to withdraw the discussion of this file during today’s ministerial meeting.’

The channel also quoted Israeli officials saying that ‘the UAE pressured Netanyahu to abandon the annexation proposal,’ warning that ‘any unilateral steps would undermine the normalization agreements signed in 2020.’

Israel reached normalization agreements with Bahrain, the UAE, Morocco, and Sudan at the end of 2020, known as the ‘Abraham Accords,’ but Saudi Arabia has stated on multiple occasions that it will not normalize before the establishment of a Palestinian state within the 1967 borders, which Netanyahu has delayed until today.

On Wednesday, Lana Nusseibeh, UAE Assistant Minister of Foreign Affairs for Political Affairs and Ministerial-level envoy, warned Israel against annexing the West Bank, considering it a ‘red line’ for her country and saying it would mean a practical rejection of the Abraham Accords.

The UAE warnings came after Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich announced on Wednesday Tel Aviv’s intention to annex 82 percent of the occupied West Bank, emphasizing the necessity to ‘prevent the establishment of a Palestinian state.’

Since starting its extermination war on the Gaza Strip on October 7, 2023, Israel has intensified committing crimes including demolishing homes, displacing Palestinian citizens, confiscating their lands, and expanding and accelerating settlement construction in the West Bank, preparing to hasten imposing sovereignty over it.

The United Nations confirms that settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories is illegal and undermines the possibility of implementing the two-state solution (Palestinian and Israeli), and has been calling for its cessation for decades without success.
