Al-Qahira News reported that the accident occurred due to loss of control of the steering wheel while the vehicle was in motion, noting that the car was carrying five Qataris and an Egyptian driver.
The tragic accident resulted in the deaths of Qatari diplomats Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber, Abdullah Ghanem Al-Khuraineen, and Saud bin Thamer Al Thani, who worked in the Amiri Diwan and the Qatari Ministry of Foreign Affairs. Others were injured and are receiving treatment in the hospital.
The accident happened on the international road in South Sinai, 50 kilometers before reaching the tourist city, where the official car carrying the delegation overturned. Investigative authorities have opened an inquiry into the accident.
The delegation was accompanying the Qatari Prime Minister on an urgent diplomatic mission as part of the “Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit,” which will be co-chaired by President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and former U.S. President Donald Trump, with participation from leaders of more than twenty countries to sign a ceasefire agreement in Gaza.
