Israel’s Foreign Ministry decided on Monday evening to revoke residency visas for Australia’s representatives to the Palestinian Authority in response to Australia’s recognition of the State of Palestine. Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar wrote on his official X account: “I have decided to revoke the visas of Australia’s representatives to the Palestinian Authority, after its decision to recognize the State of Palestine and its refusal to grant visas to Israeli figures.” He added that he instructed the Israeli embassy in Canberra to examine every Australian official visa application to enter Israel “carefully.” The move follows Australia’s announcement of its intention to recognize a Palestinian state and its refusal to grant entry visas to a number of Israeli figures, including former Justice Minister Eilat Shaked and Knesset Constitution Committee chairman Simcha Rotman.
