Air raid sirens sounded in “open areas” in southern Israel on Wednesday evening after a drone was launched from Yemen, marking the second drone within less than an hour.
The Israeli army said in a statement posted on its X platform account: “The Air Force intercepted a drone launched from Yemen shortly before, and sirens were activated in open areas.”
Israeli private newspaper Yedioth Ahronoth quoted the army as saying the drone was intercepted “in the border area with Egypt.”
Shortly before that, the Israeli army announced the interception of a drone in the same area, according to the Israeli newspaper.
So far, there has been no comment from the Houthi group in Yemen, which has repeatedly targeted Israeli sites and ships it claims are linked to Tel Aviv in the Red Sea. Israel responds by bombing Houthi sites in areas under their control in Yemen.
On Tuesday, the Israeli army announced in a statement that four drones were launched from Yemen toward the southern city of Eilat within one hour, confirming their interception.
On September 24, 50 Israelis were injured, including three in serious condition, after a drone launched from Yemen fell near a hotel in Eilat, after the Israeli army failed to intercept it.
