The Environmental Studies Department at Greater Amman Municipality concluded a specialized course titled “Principles of Environmental Communication and Marketing,” organized under the SOWAS project, implemented by the German Cooperation Agency GIZ with support from the German government and the European Union.
The course aimed to enhance innovative methodologies in changing environmental behavior, shifting from traditional awareness to applying effective strategies based on scientific evidence.
The course focused on training Greater Amman Municipality staff from various departments on global behavior models such as COM-B and EAST, using different persuasion tools and field incentives to promote waste sorting projects at the source and linking results to direct performance measurement.
It also emphasized accurately understanding target audience segments, including families, schools, and commercial establishments, and crafting clear communication messages targeting all groups and segments.
Engineer Basem Al-Hawamdeh, Director of the Environmental Studies Department, confirmed that this training course represents a qualitative and ongoing step towards enhancing the technical and administrative capacities of Greater Amman Municipality staff, integrating innovative methodologies within recycling and waste sorting projects professionally, in line with the city’s goals.
He pointed out that this initiative reflects the municipality’s commitment to innovation in waste management, continuous efforts to improve service quality, and promote environmental awareness culture in society, with clear support from partners to ensure sustainability of results and enhance their economic and environmental impact.
Through organizing these courses, Greater Amman Municipality seeks to invest in building the capacities of its environmental staff, which is an investment in the city’s future, contributing to turning waste into sustainable economic resources, reducing the burden on infrastructure, and enhancing citizens’ quality of life, reflecting the professionalism of the municipality’s strategic planning and leadership and its keenness to adopt best global practices.
