Officials announced on Tuesday that Pakistan evacuated tens of thousands of people to safer locations after India released excess water from dams and rivers into low-lying border areas. This move followed a notification from New Delhi to Islamabad about a potential flood across the border, marking the first diplomatic contact between the two countries in months. The Pakistan National Disaster Management Authority issued early warnings about rising levels of the Sutlej River and flood risks in Punjab province, where evacuations are underway. Over 14,000 people were evacuated from Kasur district and more than 89,000 from Bahawalnagar city near the Indian border. These flood warnings and evacuations come amid the ongoing heavy monsoon rains in India and Pakistan.
