Dr. Ayman Al-Raqab, Professor of Political Science at Al-Quds University, said during an intervention on the program “Kalimah Akhira” on ON TV with journalist Ahmed Salem that the Israeli political coalition is the decisive actor in managing any deal or plan to resolve the conflict with the Palestinians, warning against relying on statements by US President Donald Trump as a guaranteed measure of future directions.

Al-Raqab explained that analyzing Trump’s personality makes it difficult to trust his statements or expect them to translate into firm steps on the ground, pointing to Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s ability to modify or cancel large parts of any proposed plan, even if it was drafted or promoted by Trump. He added that the upcoming meeting between the two sides carries a decisive character as it could lead to fundamental modifications of the American proposal or to the dropping of clauses that do not align with Netanyahu’s political agenda.

Al-Raqab also touched on the military and political capabilities of Hamas, suggesting that the movement’s field weaponry is limited compared to what some imagine, and that it has lost much of its stock since the beginning of the war, which restricts its military options on the ground. Nevertheless, he believed that religious movements and organizations are capable of “changing colors” or morphing in form (similar to the practices of other parties and organizations), making their complete eradication possible only with great difficulty, and making the possibility of their remaining within any post-war political equation likely.

Al-Raqab concluded by noting that Hamas’s acceptance of post-war agreement clauses may happen as a tactic or tactical shift, but he warned that the success or failure of any agreement is primarily linked to the positions of internal Israeli parties and the policies of their leadership, not only to external statements or international proposals.
