Parents and specialists have called for the inclusion of a comprehensive first aid training program combining theoretical and practical aspects for students from fourth grade to the third secondary grade. The goal is to prepare a generation skilled and confident in handling various emergency situations and proficient in using basic tools such as fire extinguishers, providing first aid before paramedics arrive. Supporters believe instilling this culture early not only serves preventive purposes but also boosts self-confidence, breaks the fear barrier, refines students’ personalities, and opens new horizons for future specialization in health and emergency fields.
They emphasized that real field experiences transform theoretical knowledge into effective skills and automatic reactions, making this program an urgent educational and social necessity.
– Rashid Al Nuaimi: Enhances Students’ Awareness of Safety and Security
Engineer Rashid Al Nuaimi, a parent, explained that such programs are implemented in several countries and enhance individuals’ awareness of family safety and security, enabling children to play a pivotal role in saving their relatives’ lives during emergencies.
He cited an example of a parent suffering a stroke in a European country where the child managed to call emergency services and accurately describe the situation, contributing to saving the parent’s life.
Al Nuaimi confirmed that these programs have a significant impact on saving lives, stressing the importance of preventive measures before treatment, focusing on practical exercises that convert knowledge into skill and automatic behavior. He called for making these programs mandatory in schools from fourth grade to secondary level to protect lives.
– Ahmed Al Jasem: Suggested Inclusion in Science Curriculum
Ahmed Al Jasem suggested integrating the first aid program into the science subject, taught and trained according to students’ educational stages. Younger students would learn simple first aid suitable for their age, with practical and theoretical content progressing as they advance. He proposed including practical tests to reinforce skills, emphasizing that the goal is not only to provide first aid but also to teach students how to save themselves and those around them, making them active community members. He added that this knowledge raises awareness of fire hazards and fosters preventive behaviors, beyond theoretical curricula that insufficiently prepare students for emergency or critical situations.
– Dr. Khalid Al Muhannadi: Develops Social Interaction Skills
Dr. Khalid Al Muhannadi, a psychological researcher, stated that training students in life skills like first aid has a profound positive effect on individuals and society, enhancing self-confidence, self-efficacy, and sustainable readiness, reducing anxiety when facing emergencies and enabling intervention.
He added that training instills social responsibility, not limited to theoretical learning but fostering a sense of responsibility towards others and creating a collective support network in emergencies. It also contributes to building social interaction skills through simulation exercises and role-playing between the injured and rescuer, developing quick response under pressure and enhancing teamwork. He confirmed that training improves students’ psychological resilience and increases their ability to handle critical situations.
– Dr. Somaya Al Mutawa: Boosts Confidence and Instills Responsibility
Dr. Somaya Al Mutawa, a trainer and development consultant, said that amid rapid changes and the importance of empowering youth with skills to face life’s various situations, first aid skills emerge as a fundamental pillar for building a conscious and responsible generation. Providing students the opportunity to learn these skills positively impacts their personal lives and extends to society as a whole, reinforcing cooperation values and enhancing public safety in the country.
She continued that at the individual level, it increases health awareness and personal safety, making students more capable of protecting themselves and handling emergencies confidently. It also boosts their self-confidence and decision-making ability in critical situations, instills responsibility towards others, and equips them with practical life skills such as dealing with wounds, fractures, and emergencies, stimulating logical thinking in crises to analyze situations and choose appropriate actions quickly and efficiently.
At the societal level, spreading first aid culture contributes to enhancing community safety, reducing accident impacts, and improving emergency response efficiency.
– Nayef Al Yafie: Prevents Students from Making Mistakes
Mr. Nayef Al Yafie, an educator and parent, indicated that schools usually raise students’ awareness on this topic, but introducing a mandatory subject providing theoretical and practical information on first aid would greatly benefit students, their families, and peers.
He believed that learning first aid skills is essential in daily life and including it in curricula would prevent students from making mistakes during emergencies and enable them to act properly in their environment, benefiting themselves and those around them.
– Fawaz Al Anzi: Enables Students to Handle Emergencies
Fawaz Al Anzi emphasized the importance of including a subject to train students in first aid, with periodic practical training supervised by paramedics from the Qatar Red Crescent or Hamad Medical Corporation.
Al Anzi explained that the goal is to enable students to handle emergencies such as choking or fires and master the use of fire extinguishers.
He questioned why we do not graduate a trained and qualified generation from schools and universities in first aid, affirming that training breaks students’ fear barrier, develops their skills, encourages specialization in this field, and strengthens their courage spirit.
