The Russian Ministry of Defense stated on Telegram that 11 drones were shot down over the Volgograd region in southern Russia, while the rest were destroyed over the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions in the southwest of the country.
Odesa regional governor Oleh Kiper said a Russian drone attack overnight damaged an electricity facility near the city of Odesa in southern Ukraine, cutting power to more than 29,000 customers on Sunday morning.
Kiper wrote on Telegram that the hardest-hit area was the city of Chornomorsk on the outskirts of Odesa, where the attack also caused damage to residential homes and administrative buildings.
Kiper said, “Critical infrastructure is operating on generators.” He added that one person was injured as a result of the attack.
There has been no comment yet from Russia, which has continuously targeted critical infrastructure in Ukraine throughout the 42-month-long war.
Meanwhile, DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private electricity producer, said on Sunday that a Russian attack overnight targeted four electricity facilities in the Odesa region in southern Ukraine.
Additionally, the Ukrainian Air Force announced in a Telegram statement on Sunday that Ukrainian air defense forces shot down 126 out of 142 drones launched by Russia during an air attack on northern, southern, and eastern parts of the country overnight. The statement said Russian forces launched attacks using 142 drones of the “Shahed” model and other decoy types, launched from the Russian regions of Kursk, Milrovo, Primorsko-Akhtarsk, and from Chuda in the Crimean Peninsula, according to the Ukrainian national news agency Ukrinform.
Conversely, the Russian Ministry of Defense said on Sunday that Russian air defense systems intercepted and destroyed 21 Ukrainian drones following a nighttime attack.
The ministry said on Telegram that 11 drones were shot down over the Volgograd region in southern Russia, while the rest were destroyed over the Rostov, Belgorod, and Bryansk regions in southwest Russia.
