Putin’s diplomatic advisor, Yuri Ushakov, told journalists that the agenda will primarily focus on resolving the Ukrainian crisis, in addition to peace, security, important international issues, and bilateral cooperation. The meeting will be held at Elmendorf Air Base in Anchorage, Alaska, followed by a joint press conference of the two presidents. Preparations for this summit have entered their final stage. Ushakov said the duration of the negotiations has not been determined and that the delegation will return to Russia immediately after the discussions. Ushakov added that an exchange of views is expected on enhancing bilateral cooperation, including trade and economic fields, noting that this cooperation has huge potential that has unfortunately not yet been exploited.
Putin stated that he wants to inform about the stage reached with the current US administration, which, as everyone knows, is making very active and sincere efforts to stop the fighting, end the crisis, and reach agreements in the interest of all parties involved in this conflict. Discussions with the US aim to create long-term peace conditions between the two countries, Europe, and the world as a whole, if agreements are reached on limiting strategic offensive arms in the coming stages. He mentioned a 25% chance that the upcoming summit could fail but expressed his belief that Putin will make an agreement. Macron added that Trump clearly excluded in a phone call with European leaders and Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky the possibility of Kyiv joining NATO, which is a major obstacle to any peace agreement with Russia.
Meanwhile, Zelensky arrived in London to hold talks with British Prime Minister Keir Starmer ahead of the US-Russia summit.
