The Dubai Endowment and Trust Fund contributed AED 300,000 to help patient Abu Yassin cover part of his treatment cost of AED 637,000. Previously, he received AED 100,000 assistance from Alwaleed Real Estate Company, yet he still needs to pay the remaining AED 237,000.
This support is part of the “Falkom Tayyib 4” initiative, led by the Dubai Endowment and Trust Fund and the newspaper “Emarat Al Youm,” aiming to treat patients whose financial situations prevent them from receiving treatment, assist humanitarian cases, release indigent inmates from correctional facilities, pay overdue rents for those in need, support low-income individuals, and assess their needs.
Omar Jumaa Al Mazmi, Director of the Endowment Department at the Dubai Endowment and Trust Fund, confirmed that “Falkom Tayyib 4” extends the institution’s mission to support critical humanitarian cases on various levels and embodies the role of endowment in empowering individuals and enhancing their quality of life.
Al Mazmi said the institution’s contribution to supporting a patient with a critical health condition reflects their commitment to the principle of solidarity and compassion, embodying the vision of the wise leadership and confirming the vital role of endowments in alleviating patients’ suffering and supporting community initiatives that restore hope to those in need.
He added that they appreciate the humanitarian role of the “Hotline” at “Emarat Al Youm” newspaper, which acts as an effective bridge between supporting entities and needy cases, helping to convey patients’ voices and highlight their suffering professionally and humanely.
He said, “Our cooperation with Emarat Al Youm in the Falkom Tayyib 4 initiative reflects the institution’s belief in the importance of community partnership and the integration of efforts between media and humanitarian community institutions, enhancing the giving ecosystem in Dubai and consolidating its pioneering role in sustainable humanitarian work.” He also emphasized the importance of supporting the health sector as one of the most vital sectors directly affecting human life, as the health endowment translates their vision of building a healthy and sustainable society and is a fundamental pillar to enhance health security and enable patients unable to afford care to receive necessary treatment.
The “Hotline” coordinated between the institution and the Dubai Islamic Affairs and Charitable Activities Department to transfer the donation amount to the patient’s hospital account. Emarat Al Youm published the story of his suffering on the sixth of this month, highlighting his inability to cover the treatment cost. The patient expressed deep gratitude to the institutions that took care of his case and paid part of the surgery cost, hoping the donation amount will be completed soon.
Abu Yassin, a 44-year-old Egyptian, suffers from acute respiratory failure and lives on an oxygen device, awaiting a lung transplant. According to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, the patient needs a lung transplant as soon as possible due to his deteriorating health condition.
The surgery cost is AED 1,037,000. Philanthropists helped him pay AED 400,000, after which he turned to the “Hotline” for help in raising the remaining AED 637,000.
Abu Yassin told Emarat Al Youm that his suffering began in 2013 when he had mild lung fibrosis and was treated with medication, but his condition worsened day by day as the fibrosis expanded.
He said the medications included corticosteroids, adding, “After a while, the left lung stopped working, and I lived on one lung. I was admitted to the intensive care unit at Sheikh Khalifa Bin Zayed Medical City, where I was under medical observation for a period.”
He added, “About a year ago, I had a traffic accident that damaged my right lung, which began to weaken until it lost its function. Currently, I live on oxygen 24/7 and cannot do without it.”
He said, “I was admitted to Cleveland Clinic Abu Dhabi, and after tests and medical examinations, it was determined that I need a lung transplant as I reached the stage of respiratory failure.”
He continued that the cost is very high, amounting to AED 1,037,000, noting that his financial capabilities are very modest.
He said, “Philanthropists helped me with AED 400,000, which was paid to the hospital to start providing the lung and put my name on the waiting list for the surgery, but AED 637,000 remains.” He added, “With Alwaleed Real Estate Company paying AED 100,000 and Dubai Endowment contributing AED 300,000, AED 237,000 remains, but I cannot collect this amount, knowing that I am the sole provider for my family. I used to work in a private entity but had to stop due to illness.”
He added, “My family consists of a wife and five children. My financial situation has worsened greatly due to my health condition. My children have stopped studying, and I do not know how to cover their tuition fees.”
Abu Yassin appealed to philanthropists and kind-hearted people to help him secure the cost of the lung transplant he needs to resume his duties towards his family.
