The wife of the religious authority Ali al-Husseini al-Sistani was buried in the courtyard of the Holy Alawi Shrine, where prayers were held in her honor attended by prominent religious figures, seminary students, and community dignitaries. The deceased belonged to a well-established scholarly family, being the daughter of Sayyid Mirza Hassan al-Shirazi on her father’s side and the granddaughter of Grand Ayatollah Mohsen al-Hakim on her mother’s side, thus linking two major scholarly schools in the seminary: the Shirazi and Hakimi schools. Her marriage to al-Sistani formed a bridge between these venerable schools.

Al-Sistani’s two sons received the condolences at the Al-Tusi Mosque near the shrine of Imam Ali (peace be upon him), amid tight security arrangements. The Bahr al-Uloom family and prominent religious figures in Iraq also extended their heartfelt condolences to the religious authority on the death of his wife.

A statement received by Azzaman newspaper announced the postponement of the memorial prayer ceremony marking the 40th day since the death of Hujjat al-Islam wal-Muslimeen Sayyid Muhammad Ali Bahr al-Uloom to the evening of the following Wednesday. The President of Iraq, Abdul Latif Jamal Rashid, expressed deep sorrow and extended his sincere condolences to the religious authority and his sons, praying for God’s mercy on the deceased and her admission to paradise.

Prime Minister Mohammed Shia’ Al Sudani, Speaker of Parliament Mahmoud Al-Mashhadani, and Chief Justice Faiq Zidan also expressed their condolences and sympathy to al-Sistani and the deceased’s family, asking God to grant them patience and solace.

In Erbil, the President of the Kurdistan Region, Nechirvan Barzani, and the Prime Minister Masrour Barzani expressed their deep sadness and condolences, emphasizing that the death of al-Sistani’s wife is a great loss to the Iraqi family and religious society, praying for her to be granted the highest paradise.
