Um Youssef, a 63-year-old Palestinian woman, has been suffering from ovarian cancer since last June. She requires chemotherapy sessions and a surgical operation to remove her uterus, with a total cost of 76,966 AED. Her difficult financial situation prevents her from receiving treatment, and her son appeals to kind-hearted people to help raise the required amount.
Her son, Youssef, narrates his mother’s suffering: “She experienced pain, heaviness, and swelling in the lower abdomen, general fatigue, loss of appetite, and digestive disturbances. We took her to a nearby hospital where she underwent necessary tests and a CT scan of the abdomen. After the results, the doctor informed us of a tumor and emphasized the need to take a biopsy for analysis.”
He added: “My mother stayed in the hospital for three days receiving treatment and care until the biopsy results confirmed a cancerous tumor in the ovary. The doctor advised us to take her to Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City Hospital in Abu Dhabi for a more precise diagnosis.”
He continued: “We immediately went to the emergency department, repeated all tests and CT scans, and confirmed the presence of a stage four cancerous tumor in the ovary, spreading to the uterus and breast. The doctors confirmed she needs an intensive treatment plan with chemotherapy sessions costing 40,983 AED to control her health condition and the tumors spread throughout her body, followed by surgery to remove the uterus costing 35,983 AED, making the total amount 76,966 AED.”
He confirmed that she has undergone two chemotherapy sessions with the help of a charitable association that also covered her hospital stay. The doctor advised continuing chemotherapy sessions on schedule to protect her health, noting that she urgently needs to complete the treatment and then undergo surgery to avoid life-threatening risks. However, the treatment cost is very high compared to his modest financial capabilities, which prevents her from continuing treatment.
He said he is the sole provider for his mother, working in a private sector facility with a monthly salary of 7,500 AED, from which he pays rent. He appeals to kind-hearted people to help ease his mother’s pain as cancer is rapidly consuming her body.
