“Umm Muhannad” (75 years old, Syrian) suffers from several chronic diseases including diabetes, hypertension, and health problems in the heart and kidneys. However, she cannot continue her treatment because her health insurance card has expired, and her son Muhannad, her sole provider, cannot afford the 12,000 dirhams required to renew it.
Muhannad appealed to kind-hearted people to help him secure the required amount so that his mother—who is forced by old age and poor health to remain in a wheelchair—can resume her treatment and healthcare. He pointed out that his current financial situation prevents him from covering the renewal cost.
Muhannad told “Emarat Al Youm”: “After my father’s death, I became the sole provider for my family, and I do my best to meet the family’s needs, but I am currently facing a real problem, which is my inability to renew my elderly mother’s health insurance card. She regularly visits a hospital in Al Ain due to her diabetes, hypertension, heart problems, and kidney issues.”
He explained that his father used to pay for renewing his mother’s health insurance card as well as living expenses, but after his father’s death, all financial burdens fell on him. He added: “Since the health insurance card expired, my mother stopped receiving treatment, which causes me great concern because delaying medication worsens her health condition.”
Muhannad works in a private sector job with a salary of 7,200 dirhams, from which he pays rent, his children’s school fees, and daily expenses. He noted that his salary is insufficient to cover his obligations, especially since he has accumulated rent installments.
He said: “My greatest concern is my mother’s health, who lives in a wheelchair. I must renew her health insurance card as soon as possible so she can resume her hospital treatment.”
He added that he has applied for assistance from several charitable organizations but has not received any response, while his mother’s health continues to deteriorate due to lack of medication and missed hospital visits.
He said: “I don’t know how to manage the renewal cost for my mother’s health insurance card. I feel all doors are closed in my face, and the only hope left is that a kind-hearted benefactor helps me secure the required amount.”
