The Mayor of the Eastern Province, Engineer Fahad bin Mohammed Al-Jubeir, inaugurated the “Wahdat Watan” (Unity of the Nation) monument in Al Khobar on Sunday evening, in the presence of Abdullah Al-Buraikan, Chairman of the Board of the initiative and CEO of Retal Urban Development Company, along with several municipal leaders and important figures.

Al-Jubeir praised the contributions of the Al-Fawzan Community Service Program through the “Wahdat Watan” monument competition, which has enhanced the visual landscape of cities. He stated that the competition goes beyond being a community initiative; it is a vital developmental project that has brought a qualitative leap in implementing city landmark designs and enriching the culture of public monuments, creating a competitive environment to express love for the nation through striking and inspiring monuments.

Engineer Fahad Al-Jubeir expressed his happiness with this achievement, appreciating the contributions of private sector companies and the integrative developmental partnership between entities that contribute to improving quality of life. He highlighted the importance and impact of the “Wahdat Watan” initiative in motivating creatives, encouraging innovation, enhancing competitiveness, and fostering creativity.

Abdullah Al-Fawzan, Chairman of the Wahdat Watan Initiative Board, thanked partners in the private and public sectors and all entities that contributed to raising cultural awareness and enhancing societal taste towards historical heritage and architectural legacy. He affirmed that the initiative has become a landmark in shaping innovative architectural features of cities.

Al-Fawzan added, “We look forward to continuing to give with prosperity, dedication, and enrichment, which supports the goals of Saudi Vision 2030 to build an aware, participatory, and influential society in the national development journey.”

Engineer Abdullah Al-Buraikan said, “At Retal, we reaffirm our constant commitment to be active partners in development, not only through our urban projects but also through our community initiatives to achieve a quality of life that embodies the aspirations of the ambitious Saudi Vision.”

Meanwhile, Wahdat Watan Operations Manager Engineer Mohammed Al-Ghunaymi said, “Through our cooperation, visions complemented and we achieved success. With our ongoing partnerships, we steadily move towards greater achievements. These monuments are not just artworks but future landmarks that will be immortalized in the memory of the place and contribute to enriching the visual and cultural identity.”

The “Wahdat Watan” monument narrates the story of the late King Abdulaziz’s pivotal moments in launching the unification journey of the Kingdom under one banner, represented by 10 pages each bearing his signature “Al-Wathiq bil-Wadud Abdulaziz Al Saud.” The monument covers an area of 2,184 square meters and is located at the intersection of King Salman Bin Abdulaziz Road and Prince Turki Road in Al Khobar city. It is a gift from Retal Urban Development Company.

The Wahdat Watan initiative is one of Al-Fawzan’s annual community service initiatives that selects the most beautiful artistic and engineering works to be inaugurated in public squares or places on the National Day and Founding Day. It started in 2018 and has implemented 8 monuments so far that contributed to changing the urban scene and enhancing the aesthetic identity of cities. The seventh edition witnessed a qualitative leap by allowing talented individuals from all over the world to participate under the slogan “Inspiration Around You,” with winners to be announced soon.
