The site added: “The issue is not limited to Republicans and Democrats among themselves, but tensions have escalated into clashes between lawmakers within the same party.”

The site explained that “House Speaker Mike Johnson is facing a growing revolt from the Republican Party demanding he stop keeping the House out of session and hold votes on appropriations bills and military pay.”

Mike Johnson ruled out passing legislation to ensure continued payment of military salaries during the government shutdown, claiming the House “has already voted on this legislation.”

Johnson told reporters he “will not call the House to vote on a separate bill to pay the military personnel,” saying that “Democrats in the Senate should support the Republican bill to reopen the government.”

He added: “The matter is over for the House… the ball is now in the Senate’s court.”

Previous attempts by lawmakers to reach consensus on similar bills from both Republicans and Democrats have failed to produce positive results.

The US government shutdown has entered its second week amid growing concerns among retirees and low-income earners about economic repercussions affecting salaries and pensions.
