The United States Africa Command (AFRICOM) announced that US and partner African forces were targeted by indirect fire near the city of Kismayo in Somalia.

AFRICOM stated in a release: “No injuries or casualties among US forces have been reported.”

The US command also reported no damage to the base or coalition property so far.

On Wednesday, the new AFRICOM commander, General Dagvin Anderson, made his first official visit to Mogadishu, where he held meetings with senior Somali government officials and military leaders.

In an exclusive interview with official media, Anderson reaffirmed the United States’ commitment to strengthening strategic security cooperation with Somalia, especially in the ongoing fight against the Al-Shabaab movement and ISIS.

The general said he was acting under directives from US President Donald Trump regarding the renewal of US military operations targeting armed groups in Somalia.

Anderson also pointed to AFRICOM’s plans to enhance cooperation with the Somali Federal Government, where Al-Shabaab and ISIS maintain strongholds.

Since the beginning of 2025, the United States has conducted more than 20 airstrikes across Somalia, most targeting ISIS positions in the rugged Cal Miskaad mountains in northeastern Puntland.
