Syrian President Ahmad Al-Shara stated that he does not belong to the Muslim Brotherhood and described himself as the biggest victim of the terrorist ISIS organization. He added in statements reported by Al Arabiya channel on Tuesday morning that all nationalist and Islamic ideologies in the region have failed. Regarding relations with Israel, he pointed out that they depend on the return of the Golan Heights and the 1974 agreement, emphasizing that Damascus will not consider a peace agreement with Israel before commitment to the 1974 agreement. He stressed that calls for separation in Syria will remain dreams, noting that all solutions with the Kurds and Sweida can be discussed except separation. He confirmed his rejection of interference in Lebanon’s internal affairs and rejected the notion of a ‘river of fire’ separating Syria and Lebanon.

He added, ‘We are heading towards a renaissance, our country is strong by itself and its alliances, and our policy is based on tolerance, not revenge.’ On Monday, Ahmad Al-Shara also said during a meeting with an Arab media delegation that he does not see himself as an extension of any Islamic parties or movements, whether jihadist or the Muslim Brotherhood. He confirmed that he does not consider his project linked to the wave of the ‘Arab Spring.’ Meanwhile, Israeli Channel 12 revealed that Israel and Syria are close to signing a new security agreement mediated by the US and sponsored by Gulf countries.
