Abuzahra, a 63-year-old Indian man, has been suffering from lung cancer for nearly five months and needs to renew his health insurance card to obtain cancer medications, continue chemotherapy and radiation treatments, and attend medical check-ups at the Oncology Department of Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City hospital.
The cost to renew the card is 19,000 AED, but his financial situation does not allow him to cover this amount because the illness has prevented him from working.
His wife appealed to kind-hearted people to help pay the renewal fee to prevent his condition from worsening and potentially losing him forever.
A medical report from Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City hospital in Abu Dhabi, obtained by “Emarat Al Youm,” stated that the patient arrived at the hospital suffering from severe shortness of breath and coughing up blood. He was admitted to the emergency department, received necessary treatment, and underwent tests, analyses, and X-rays.
The results showed he has lung cancer, which caused the shortness of breath and cough.
The report added that the patient currently requires chemotherapy, radiation therapy, and intensive medical monitoring in the oncology department.
The patient’s wife told “Emarat Al Youm” that about five months ago, her husband experienced shortness of breath, fatigue, and severe coughing. She took him to a private clinic in Abu Dhabi, where the doctor ordered a chest X-ray that showed a viral lung infection. He prescribed medication and antibiotics and recommended using a home breathing device, which improved his condition within days.
She continued: “After some time, my husband felt chest pain but did not pay much attention. After a month, he experienced severe suffocation and inability to breathe, so I quickly called an ambulance, and he was immediately taken to the emergency department at Sheikh Shakhbout Medical City hospital, where he was admitted to the intensive care unit. After a few days, his condition seemed to improve, but tests revealed he has lung cancer.”
She said: “I was very saddened by my husband’s deteriorating health, and what made it worse is that he needs chemotherapy, radiation treatments, and medical follow-ups, while his private health insurance has expired.”
She added: “Our financial situation is very difficult. I am the sole breadwinner for my family of four, working at a private school with a salary of 6,000 AED,” noting that her husband lost his job due to his poor health.
The patient’s wife expressed fear that the disease will continue to ravage her husband’s body, leaving their family in constant sorrow, and appealed to kind-hearted people to help cover the cost of renewing the health insurance card and save her husband from the disease.
