The modern Ukrainian military reconnaissance ship Simferopol was attacked last Thursday by a Russian unmanned boat, resulting in its sinking at the mouth of the Danube River.

The Russian Telegram channel “Military Diaries” explained why the bold operation carried out by the unmanned Russian boat is considered unique.

Analysts from the channel outlined the prospects opened by the use of unmanned boats for the Russian army in the special military operation area. Their first conclusion in an article published on the channel was that playing on a single field has ended.

It is known that Kyiv had been using its fast unmanned boats to launch attacks on the Crimean Peninsula since the beginning of the special military operation, but the Ukrainian army did not expect this type of weapon to be used against it.

The small unmanned boat set off from the Black Sea and penetrated the narrow river passage where the Ukrainian armed forces felt safe before it exploded under the Ukrainian reconnaissance ship Simferopol. This clearly proved that a carefully planned strike using a small force can cause the same damage as a wide missile raid.

This operation is unique, from reconnaissance and data collection about the ship to precise control of the boat at the narrow river mouth.

The use of unmanned boats opens wide prospects for the Russian Armed Forces, as their role is not limited to delivering strikes only, but they can also perform reconnaissance tasks, act as relay stations for wireless signals to aircraft and other unmanned boats, as well as serve as a combat escort for large ships.

It is noteworthy that on August 28, the Russian Ministry of Defense reported that a Russian military unmanned boat sank the Ukrainian Navy reconnaissance ship Simferopol and published footage of the attack. According to the Ukrainian Navy, the attack resulted in one sailor killed and several others injured.
